New Zealand Fashion Week
21st September 2010
The opening show at Fashion Week this year featured garments made from 100% suri alpaca fibre sourced and manufactured in New Zealand. Designer Laurie Foon from Starfish opened the show with her eco friendly collection. There was no mistaking the ones made from woven suri fibre, the drape and lustre was incredible. Here is what Laurie Foon had to say prior to the show:
We’re also particularly excited by a new alpaca fabric called Suri, sourced from Canterbury, which will make its global debut on the Fashion Week catwalk.
We were among several suri breeders in the audience and were so excited to see our dreams come true. We all share the vision that suri alpaca is the natural fibre of the future. It has all the attributes that both the designer and the wearer crave for. It looks beautiful, it feels beautiful and it is beautiful.
There are photos in various places on the internet but this is a good photo of the top half of a stunning long peach coloured dress made from 100% suri.
Laurie was interviewed by Kim Hill on National Radio on 25th September. About 7 minutes into the interview Laurie talks passionately about suri fabric.
