Brighten up your day with a visit to our farm to meet our alpacas and learn about these unique animals. This is best experienced when it is not raining and must be pre-booked. We only do it for 1 family group at a time so you will find it very personal and unforgettable. Please contact us with your preferred date and time and we will get back to you within 24 hours. You can pay on the day and if it is raining on the day you can cancel or re-schedule by phoning us in the morning.
We start off with a look at Mark's steam car (an original 1922 Stanley Steamer). After that we go into the 15 acres of covenanted bush behind the house and see some magnificent native trees, including some large kauri. After walking up some steps and along a ridge we climb over a stile and into one of the female alpaca paddocks. You can spend lots of time hand feeding the girls and taking photos. After that we go to the boy's paddock and feed them. Take the opportunity to ask as many questions as you like about these amazing animals. I guarantee you will be fascinated to hear about the process of breeding alpacas!
After meeting these wonderful animals we will go to the barn where you can see (and feel) the fleeces after shearing, then after washing and carding and finally in a finished product - a hand made nuno felted alpaca scarf. Scarves will be available for you to purchase for $65 and for the spinners amongst you, we have washed and carded fibre available in various colours for $10 per 100gms.
Please bring sensible shoes as the paddocks (and bush) are uneven and can be muddy. The tour is not suitable for anyone with mobility issues but please discuss with us and we may be able to do a customised experience for you.
